DESCRIPTION:Dear friends in Christ\,\nIn scripture\, we frequently see the metaphor of the Good Shepherd. This motif spans\nboth Testaments and tells us a lot about the Kin-dom of Heaven\, the nature of God\, and\nthe role of Jesus in the world and in our lives. Jesus tells his disciples not only that he is\nthe gate to the Realm of Heaven\, but that He is the only way. Often misinterpreted\, this\nmessage – and where and how it is relayed to Jesus’ disciples\, is the cornerstone of our\nfaith and the bedrock of our discipleship in Jesus. It is one of the clearest messages we\nhave about the promise of abundant life – not in the afterlife – but right here\, right now.\nPlease join us this Sunday as we learn more about what Christianity is and what Jesus\npromises us.\nI’d like to give a special thank you to Rev. Howard Fauntroy and minister Rodney\nChadderton for preaching in my absence.\nAfter worship\, we will begin Bible Study in the Fellowship Hall where we launch into our\nnew series on the Clobber Texts\, but also the Affirming Texts. This Sunday after worship\nwe will talk about the authority of scripture – what that means\, why we believe it\, and\nwhere there might be room for interpretation. \nWe will look forward to seeing you there!\nMany blessings\,\nPastor Tracy \nSAVE THE DATE\nSunday\, May 3 – Special Guest Preacher Rev. Teogenes Tawagon will join us as Pastor\nTracy preaches at Church of the Foothills in Sylmar. This is part of the Pacific Asian\nAmerican Ministries (PAAM) of the United Church of Christ annual Pulpit Swap to foster\nmore fellowship and understanding amongst our churches from many cultures.\nSunday\, May 3 – After worship\, the youth will shop for our Sack Lunch Program.\nSaturday\, May 9 – Knitting Ministry\nSunday\, May 10 – Mother’s Day\nSaturday\, May 16 – 10 to Noon in the Fellowship Hall – Trans Support Group \nSunday\, May 17 – We will assemble Sack Lunches in the Fellowship Hall immediately\nfollowing worship. Our youth have made a goal of 1500 sack lunches for 2026 and we\nare now at 557. We need all hands on deck to help us get there!

DESCRIPTION:Bible Study: The Clobber Texts \nSunday Afternoons from 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM\, beginning April 26 \nWest Hollywood United Church of Christ – in the Fellowship Hall \n7350 Sunset Boulevard\, Los Angeles\, CA 90046 \nPlease join us for an intensive Bible Study in which we study the passages most commonly used to disenfranchise the LGBTQ+ community. These passages are often quoted\, traditionally legislated\, and regularly weaponized. Have you ever wondered if they really mean what we are told? If so\, why does it matter? \nIn this series will delve deeply into eight passages most commonly associated with the issue of homosexuality and the Bible. When put into their proper context\, we find that these passages have surprising meanings and new messages of hope for us today. Light refreshments will be provided. Feel free to brown bag your lunch or bring something to share if you would like.
