DESCRIPTION:Dear friends in Christ\, \nWhy does the king in the Parable of the Wedding Feast get so angry? For centuries\, scholars have debated whether this is an allegory and tried to get to the heart of the violent conflict between the king and the wedding guests. Rev. Dr. Richard Rohrbaugh cracked that code when he discovered a cultural phenomenon in ancient Rome that breaks open the mystery of this story. What does invitation mean? What does integration look like as it unfolds in real time? This parable – and it’s parallel version in the book of Luke – have much to teach us about the power of Jesus’ message and example to break down the walls we construct between each other. Please join us this Sunday as we dig into this parable and find what wisdom it holds for us in our world today. \nWe will also be receiving three new members: Thomas Mitchell\, He “Nemo” Yu\, and Ronnie Grantham. We hope to see everyone there so we can welcome them and covenant with them together. \nStarting this Sunday\, we will be collecting for One Great Hour of Sharing\, a denominational offering that supports disaster relief around the world. We are familiar with the\n“Lord’s Prayer” or the “Our Father\,” or in our church we call it\, “The prayer that Jesus\ntaught us.” We know this prayer well and many of us recite it every Sunday at church.\nBut it has much more to do with our call as Christian disciples that we may realize\, and\nin times where it feels like the world is falling apart\, reflecting on this prayer – and it’s\ncall for beloved community – is critical to our faith. This SATURDAY\, MARCH 7\n(BECAUSE THE L.A. MARATHON PRECLUDES WORSHIP ON SUN\, MARCH 8) we\nwill talk about this prayer and a few other prayers in the Christian discipline that can\nhelp to strengthen and sustain not only our faith\, but also our communities as we walk\nthrough the present turmoil together. \nAt 9 AM we will gather in the Fellowship Hall for Bible Study\, where we will look at the\nhistorical conflict between Creationism and Evolution. The passage we will read this Sunday references “those who were being saved\,” and describes a beloved community. Who were these people\, and what was happening on their faith journey? Only a few years later\, Paul addresses a beloved community that has gone terribly wrong. What is the difference\, and what happened? Even centuries later\, these passages have much to teach us about our walk with Christ. \nMany thanks to our youth and to all the folks who helped with our Sack Lunch Assembly last Saturday. DESCRIPTION:Dear friends in Christ\, \nAs we approach Holy Week\, the stories in the gospels revolve around Jesus’ arrival in Jerusalem\, where his arrival causes quite a stir. As we watch the No Kings movement continue to grow here in the United States\, I am reminded of how many times Jesus declined any aspirations to be king\, and how many people asked him. There is a passage in the book of Samuel that is rarely preached on\, but is eerily familiar to Jesus’ denial of royal power. This follows a trajectory that begins in the book of Exodus and ends with Jesus’ trial: who wants to be king over us\, and what does God want for us? You may be surprised at what the Bible tells us about the path to self-rule\, freedom\, and peace. \nWe will look forward to seeing you there! \nMany blessings\, \nPastor Tracy \nThis Sunday there will be no Bible Study.
