DESCRIPTION:Dear friends in Christ\, \nIn the gospels\, Jesus teaches us his disciples how to pray. We are familiar with the\n“Lord’s Prayer” or the “Our Father\,” or in our church we call it\, “The prayer that Jesus\ntaught us.” We know this prayer well and many of us recite it every Sunday at church.\nBut it has much more to do with our call as Christian disciples that we may realize\, and\nin times where it feels like the world is falling apart\, reflecting on this prayer – and it’s\ncall for beloved community – is critical to our faith. This SATURDAY\, MARCH 7\n(BECAUSE THE L.A. MARATHON PRECLUDES WORSHIP ON SUN\, MARCH 8) we\nwill talk about this prayer and a few other prayers in the Christian discipline that can\nhelp to strengthen and sustain not only our faith\, but also our communities as we walk\nthrough the present turmoil together. \nAt 9 AM we will gather in the Fellowship Hall for Bible Study\, where we will look at the\nhistorical conflict between Creationism and Evolution. When we lay the book of Genesis\nside-by-side with Darwin’s Origin of Species\, we uncover much less conflict than we\nhave been led to believe. \nImmediately following worship we will be assembling sack lunches. The youth have\nmade a goal of 1\,500 sack lunches for 2026\, and we need everybody’s help to get them\nthere. \nWe will look forward to seeing you there! \nMany blessings\,\nPastor Tracy

As we watch the No Kings movement continue to grow here in the United States\, I am reminded of how many times Jesus declined any aspirations to be king\, and how many people asked him. There is a passage in the book of Samuel that is rarely preached on\, but is eerily familiar to Jesus’ denial of royal power. This follows a trajectory that begins in the book of Exodus and ends with Jesus’ trial: who wants to be king over us\, and what does God want for us? These passages are often quoted\, traditionally legislated\, and regularly weaponized. Have you ever wondered if they really mean what we are told? If so\, why does it matter? \nIn this series will delve deeply into eight passages most commonly associated with the issue of homosexuality and the Bible. When put into their proper context\, we find that these passages have surprising meanings and new messages of hope for us today. Light refreshments will be provided.
