Dear friends in Christ,

This Sunday we will be reading a short conversation between Jesus, James, and John. They make what they believe is both a simple and logical request. Jesus answer is overwhelming in its frustration that the disciples still don’t understand what he has been trying so hard to teach them. When we scratch the surface of this conversation, we discover political intrigue, royal aspirations, social climbers, and secret plots. Drama suddenly erupts among the twelve disciples. What happened? What were the disciples thinking, and how did Jesus try to set them straight? Join us this week as we dive into a passage that still holds much wisdom for us in our current political climate.
