Dear friends in Christ,

This Sunday we are studying a passage from Matthew, in which John the Baptist asks Jesus whether He is the one they’ve been waiting for. This is a loaded question, and speaks to the great disillusionment of John and the people of Israel at the time. How do we wait and hope when it seems everything is going wrong? What are the promises God has made to her people, and how do they still apply today? Jesus’ answer gets right to the heart of the issue, and gives us a powerful perspective for today.

Last Sunday I shared that our national gathering of UCC churches at the General Synod in July 2025 they passed a resolution denouncing ICE for engaging in Domestic Terrorism. There were may resolutions passed and you can find them all here: Resolutions – United Church of Christ General Synod 35. Newsweek reported this in an article on July 17.
