Dear friends in Christ,
Jesus continues to be a fascinating conundrum and example in the story of the
Centurion’s Servant. We see Jesus faced with a seemingly terrible dilemma: A man
asks Jesus to heal a beloved servant, but the man asking is a leader in Rome’s brutal
occupying military. What would you do in this situation? What has God done in
situations like this in the past? What can Jesus’ conundrum and decision teach us about
responding to the brutal occupying forces in our cities today? How do we love our
neighbor, love our enemy, and do unto the least of these all at the same time? And what
difference does it make? Please join us this Sunday as we dig into perplexing and eerily
relevant scripture to see what wisdom and hope it still holds for us today.
