Dear friends in Christ,

The Parable of the Talents is an unfortunate translation because the word “Talent” in this story has nothing to do with the English word for “innate gifts and abilities.” Often told as a lesson not to waste your God-given abilities, this parable has been grossly misinterpreted. When you take into account certain historical markers in the Lukan version, this parable actually points to a historical phenomenon not unlike our currentpolitical leadership today. Please join us this Sunday as we explore this fascinating parable and its lessons for us in today’s society.

Immediately following worship this Sunday, February 22, we will gather for our annual Congregational Meeting. Our agenda is brief, but we are planning for our year and need everyone’s voice.

Sunday, March 8 the LA Marathon will be running past our front door. As is our tradition, we will gather instead that weekend on Saturday, March 7 at 11 AM and then stay home to watch the LA Marathon from the comfort of our own living rooms on Sunday.
