Hello everyone,

It is always jarring for me to leap from Jesus’ birth on Christmas Day to Jesus being visited by the Magi on Epiphany to Jesus suddenly being an adult being baptized by John, who is also an adult. Only a few weeks ago, we were reading about John kicking in Elizabeth’s womb, and now this dynamic duo are suddenly the center of a spectacle involving thousands of people in the heart of the nation’s capital. All of a sudden, John the Baptist is taking on the tax collectors, the Pharisees, the Sagisees, the Roman military, and random people living in the city. Why did Jesus start this ritual of baptism, and what does it mean? Why did he choose such a public forum? The answer may surprise you.

This Sunday we will be blessing all birthdays, anniversaries, and sobriety dates in the month of January during worship.
