Dear friends in Christ,

The Parable of the Sower compares spreading the gospel with mixed – and arguably unsuccessful – results. At the same time, Jesus sends his disciples to do exactly that. If the Sower in this story represents God, and God only nets 25% positive results, then what chance does that leave the rest of us, especially in a time when ‘gospel’ is a loaded term, ‘church trauma’ is a real thing, and ‘evangelism’ is equated with White Christian Nationalism? The good news is that Jesus doesn’t just leave us with a nebulous parable, He defines and clarifies it for his disciples, and in that clarification there is surprising wisdom and even hope.

After worship we will be assembling Sack Lunches and also starting our new Bible Study series on Living into the Kin-dom, focusing on Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5-7. This series will be as much theory as practice, as much Bible Study as learning spiritual disciplines, and as much private prayer as communal discernment.
