Dear friends in Christ,

This Sunday we continue on our trek with Jacob on his journey and evolution from
outcast to great leader. Last week we learned of God’s promise to Jacob which –
considering Jacob’s situation and trouble that he caused – sounds outlandishly
impossible. But God has plans for Jacob, and is determined to transform him into a
leader. This Sunday we see Jacob faced with difficult choices that are important steps in
the foundation of the Nation of Israel. Was Jacob a helpless victim who was conned? Or
did God use this situation to bring Jacob to a new level of maturity? And (BONUS!) what
does the Bible really say about marriage? The answer may surprise you.

After worship we will gather for our continuing Bible Study series on chapters 5-7 in the
Gospel of Matthew. This coming Sunday we will be making Affirming Bibles as we
practice living into Matthew 5:1-16. If you would like to participate, please bring a Bible
that you are willing to mark up or make notes in, and a Biblical Passage that you find
hopeful or affirming of God’s unconditional love for you. If you don’t have a Bible, we
have a limited number (5) Bibles that are available for use.
