Dear friends in Christ,

As we approach Holy Week, the stories in the gospels revolve around Jesus’ arrival in Jerusalem, where his arrival causes quite a stir. As we watch the No Kings movement continue to grow here in the United States, I am reminded of how many times Jesus declined any aspirations to be king, and how many people asked him. There is a passage in the book of Samuel that is rarely preached on, but is eerily familiar to Jesus’ denial of royal power. This follows a trajectory that begins in the book of Exodus and ends with Jesus’ trial: who wants to be king over us, and what does God want for us? You may be surprised at what the Bible tells us about the path to self-rule, freedom, and peace.

This Sunday there will be no Bible Study. Bible Study will resume on Sunday, April 26 at 9 AM in the Fellowship Hall, when we will begin our series on the clobber texts.

Easter Week at West Hollywood United Church of Christ

Sunday, March 29, 2026 – Palm Sunday Service with a Parade of Palms beginning at 11 AM.

Wednesday, April 1, 2026 – We will collect funds for our Easter Lily Memorial Garden. You can donate in any amount in honor or memory of a loved one. Please see Tom Droney to donate and give him the name of your loved one. The memorial names will be displayed during worship, and a memorial program will be available for you to take home with you lily. Please donate and give your information to Tom no later than 4/1/2026.

Thursday, April 2, 2026 – Maundy Thursday Service and Potluck Soup Supper. Please arrive a little before 6 PM to put your soups in the kitchen to heat them. We will gather for worship in the Sanctuary at 6 PM, and then have a soup supper afterward.

Sunday, April 5, 2026 – Easter Sunday – Worship starts at 11 AM

Please wear your fanciest Easter Bonnet for our Easter Bonnet Parade. We will have fancy Easter bonnets available on Easter Sunday for you to wear. Suggested donation $10, but no one will be turned away due to lack of funds.
