Dear friends in Christ,

This Sunday we honor Mother’s Day. There are many images of a female God in the Bible, though we don’t often hear about them. Today as we are watching our own society struggle with its own identity as either tyrant or sanctuary, Isaiah’s image of the female God and female nation is especially pertinent. Trigger warning, we will be talking about bosoms in church this Sunday, because Isaiah spoke of them openly and reverently. No, there will not be visual aids.

We will also be blessing all May birthdays and anniversaries this Sunday!

This Sunday, May 10 will have an informal Bible Study for those who want to discuss last week’s video lesson, which can be viewed here. However, we will not be teaching any new material so as not to interfere with anyone’s Mother’s Day brunch plans. Bible Study will resume on Sunday, May 17 immediately following service in the Fellowship Hall, and we will be discussing Abomination and the Law: Leviticus 18:22, 20:13. On May 17 after worship we will also be assembling Sack Lunches. Our youth have set a goal of 1,500 Sack Lunches this year, and they are well on their way. However, we need your help to support them in their efforts! You can find out more about how to get involved here.

May 29-30 the Southern California Nevada Conference (of which our church is a part) is hosting its Annual Gathering of all UCC churches in the conference. There will be business meetings, workshops, worship, and abundant opportunities to gather with other folk from other UCC churches to hear what they are doing in their settings. It is a fun and edifying weekend. This year the Gathering is being held in Los Angeles, so we can commute in and we can send multiple delegates. Pastor Tracy will be attending, and if you are interested in participating (either youth or adult), we will pay for your registration. If you want to attend, please call or text Pastor Tracy at 323-793-9059 no later than 5/20 and we will get you in!
