Dear friends in Christ,

The story of the Golden Calf that the people build in the wilderness after their flight from Egypt is so familiar as to be iconic. But there is much more at play in this story that bears on our modern times. There is the interplay between the people and God at a time when they are frightened and doubting. But there is also the fraught dynamic of Moses and Aaron – two trusted leaders who respond very differently to hardship, uncertainty, and the growing anxiety of a frightened population. There is much wisdom to be gained from this story as we navigate our own upcoming elections of leadership within a population that is uncertain and weary from constant hardship. Please join us this Sunday as we look closely at this foundational story of one of the greatest patriarchs on one of his not-so-great days, and how God brought the people through despite.
